Our aging population is creating some very exciting opportunities for new ventures and existing companies. These “old” folks have money, expect to live longer than the previous generation, and have some special needs which progressive marketers can provide.

Here are facts about aging:

– The nation’s population of people 65 and older are expected to double by 2030

– Studies have shown seniors fear nursing homes more than death or public speaking

– The average cost of skilled nursing in 2008 was $209 per day

– The current average life expectancy in the US is over 78 years, while the world is 67 years.

– If past obesity trends continue, these increases in obesity could erode the overall gains in health that have been observed over the past 100 years.

Thus, the long term outlook is for an increased senior population that needs to exercise, eat better foods, and focus on managing their weight and overall health.

Hmmm. I see some opportunities looming large on the horizon.
